Lusaka – University of Zambia Lecturer in the Department of History, Dr. Sishuwa Sishuwa, who was despised by the previous regime for calling a spade a spade, took to tweeter to share his rare encounter with the former Head of State, Mr. Edgar Lungu.
“The search for historical truth sometimes takes us to the most unlikely of sources. I had an insightful discussion with former president of #Zambia, Edgar Lungu, as part of my research into the 2021 election and transfer of power. The note and pics are shared with his permission,” read his tweet.
When he criticised the previous regime with the view to correcting various social economic injustices, the, then, opposition UPND followers cheered him, taking his pronouncements as a sign of his being a UPND cadre.
But now that he has continued with his objective criticism that clearly places country needs over those of the ruling political party, he has already become the enemy of the state.

And the note, Dr. Sishuwa Sishuwa referred to in his tweet, reveals what appears to be a very sincere message from the former Head of State.
“It was a pleasure meeting you in person for the first time. I enjoyed our enlightening and thought provoking conversation. In retrospect, we should have met much earlier, maybe I could not have taken you as a hired gun,” the note starts.
“Otherwise, I read your writings, although I had difficulties appreciating the motive for the reason I referred to. My interactions with you, however, revealed you as a principled critic. There are many lessons, and we will continue to learn and perfect,” continues the note. “Best wishes my brother with your research. You are welcome anytime. Let’s continue talking.”
Dr. Sishuwa Sishuwa is by far the most lucid, objective, authoritative and eloquent commentator on Zambian politics at work today, at home or abroad.
