Lusaka, May 31 – Kenyan President, Dr. William Samoei Ruto, has called on the church to provide a moral campus to the leadership in his country. The President says the challenges which Kenyans face are diverse in nature and require concerted efforts from all stakeholders.
Dr. Ruto says politicians alone cannot solve the country’s challenges and calls upon the Church to play a role. Dr. Ruto says his administration recognizes the Church and its vital role adding, he would be a very troubled man if he doesn’t recieve any condemnation from the Church.
“When a stakeholder, like the Church is quiet, I get very troubled. The Church is closest to the people and what they say is what we rely on as leaders, not so much on the intelligence systems because sometimes, politics get into the way. Am not discrediting the intelligence system. All am saying is that the voice of the Church is important, and often than not, we use it as leaders to verify the very intelligence reports we recieve. I would therefore, be a troubled leader if I don’t hear any criticism from the Church. Am sure you will agree with me that the eyes of the Church are more open and everywhere. I call upon the Church to help us, guide us and lead us to the right path!”
Meanwhile in Zambia, President Hakainde Hichilema has labelled a Catholic priest a joker, ignorant and dull, after being criticised, a fight many say is destined to bring down President Hakainde Hichilema.
Mr. Hichilema has advised the Catholic priests to enroll in school and learn about economic graphs and calculations so that they can appreciate his level of knowledge and understanding.

The spat comes about after one Catholic priest, Father Anthony Kapambwe Salangeti, on Sunday said presenting graphs to poor and hungry Zambians to justify President Hakainde Hichilema’s achievements didn’t matter when the staple food, mealie meal, remained expensive for the common people. These remarks of the Catholic priest came following a press briefing the Zambian President held earlier where he told the people of Zambia that, according to his calculations and graphs in his possession, he was the best President of Zambia so far than all his predecessors.
However, during a hand over ceremony of vehicle purchased by the government of Hichilema for the local government authorities, for the purpose of monitoring Constituency Development Fund projects, Hichilema took an opportunity to offload his response to Father Salangeti of the Catholic.

The Zambian leader urged the Catholic priests to enroll in free education offered by his government and learn about graphs, and appreciate them in understanding certain economics advancements.
Since coming into power, Hichilema introduced free education from primary to grade 12. The opposition has condemned Mr Hichilema over the remark saying, the Zambian President is unreasonable because even if it were true that the Catholic priests are ignorant so much that they need to learn about economic graphs, such knowledge is only acquired in high learning institutions where one has to pay.
The Zambian President has lately found himself exchanging words with Catholic priests whenever they condemn some of his policies.
Recently, two other Catholic priests spoke out against Hichilema’s administration over tribalism, corruption as well as allowing LGBTQ to freely operate in Zambia.
