As PeP leader petitions the Constitutional Court over the refusal by President Hichilema to shift to Nkwazi House which is the official residence for a Republican President.
Lusaka, May 16 – The state has asked the Lusaka High Court to cancel the certificate of title of former President Levy Mwanawasa’s retirement property which was issued to the University Of Lusaka, UNILUS.
Recently, the learning institution repossessed the former President’s retirement property claiming to have bought the said property from money lenders.
This was after former First Lady Maureen Mwanawasa, allegedly, failed to pay back borrowed money from shylocks in 2017 amounting to K 1.2 million and used the retirement property as collateral.
But in an affidavit in opposition in support of originating summons, Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha says the certificate of title of the property was erroneously issued to Ms. Mwanawasa instead of being issued to the co-executors of the estate.

Mr. Kabesha says the property has also not yet been handed over to the family of the third Republican President as construction of houses is still underway.
In this matter, an Executor and Trustee of the estate of late President Levy Patrick Mwanawasa is demanding to amend the lease of the late former president’s benefit property.
In another development, Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) Leader, Sean Tembo, has petitioned the Constitutional Court over the refusal by President Hakainde Hichilema to shift to Nkwazi House which is the official residence for a Republican President.
Mr. Tembo argues that the decision by the Head of State to continue staying at his private residence has resulted into unnecessary expense on public coffers as his daily trips to state house are a huge cost to the nation.
He is further concerned about the safety of citizens as the roads leading to President Hichilema`s private residence are not suitable for a presidential convoy traveling at high speed, a situation which recently resulted into the death of a 30 year old woman who was hit by a motorbike which was part of the presidential motorcade.
Mr. Tembo notes that Zambia is currently grappling with a number of challenges such as lack of medicines in hospitals hence the country cannot afford to waste public resources on an individual at the expense of the majority citizens.
