Lusaka, June 22 – Governance Activist Isaac Mwanza is concerned that the continued police brutality especially against those with divergent views from the ruling party is negatively impacting Zambia’s human rights record.
PF Presidential Aspirant Emmanuel Mwamba has filed a complaint at woodlands police station against police officers that brutally assaulted him during his arrest last week, which resulted in his tooth being knocked out and some scars on his body.
Commenting on this development, Mr. Mwanza says the police brutality being witnessed in the country is not reflecting well on the current regime and not healthy for the country`s democracy.

Mr. Mwanza says police officers must ensure law and order is enforced in adherence to international human rights protocols and in respect to human dignity.
He has since called on President Hakainde Hichilema to urgently intervene and stop police brutality by reminding law enforcement officers to always respect human rights when executing their duties.
And Dr. Lawrence Mwelwa, a respected academician and a revolutionary writer has said it’s high time for change, where oppressive punchlines are replaced with genuine respect for fundamental human rights.
“Let’s put an end to this comedy show of fear and division and usher in a new era of justice, transparency, and freedom of expression. Together, we can create a Zambia that values every voice, where unity and laughter prevail over arbitrary power plays,” reads, in part his, statement.
