When leaders face no consequences for dishonesty, their falsehoods tend to get even more sensational. Because of his “commitment to democracy”, Ghanian university confers Honorary PhD on HH
Lusaka, July 8 – Zambian President, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, has been awarded with an Honorary Doctorate by the Valley View University in Ghana ranked 31st in that country and 9,385th in the World according to the Edu ranking system.
One wonders whether the degree is worth the money Zambia spent on his trip to go and accept it.
His Facebook page carried a post that read, in part, “I graciously accept and value this Honorary Degree in recognition of our commitment to democracy, freedom, and our Christian faith. However, my official title remains as “Mr. President,” the current and customary prefix of the State.”
But the said “commitment to democracy, freedom, and our Christian faith” remain a fallacy. Homosexuality is only outlawed on paper since he was sworn in as President and even when it comes to democracy and freedom, the opposition SP president, Dr. Fred M’membe, could not have put it any better when responding to the British High Commissioner to Zambia:
“We are faced with an excessively brutal and corrupt regime, which is abducting and torturing citizens for merely voicing dissent and he has the nerve to play down such atrocities as restoration of order!”

“We are faced with an excessively brutal and corrupt regime, which is abducting and torturing citizens for merely voicing dissent and he has the nerve to play down such atrocities as restoration of order.” – Dr. Fred M’membe.
The words of Zambia’s late President, Mr. Levy Patrick Mwanawasa, are slowly getting the attention they should have been given during President Hichilema’s pre-election campaigns.
“The problem Mr. Hichilema has is the fact that he wants to cheat, to mislead, to show that he is what he is not. His understanding of politics is that it doesn’t matter; you can cheat, provided you get your goals!”
All this drama is meant to dress him with a political image he does not deserve and the sooner he realises that the nation can now see through his political schemes, the better or he will be humiliated like a rat flushed out with cold water from its hiding hole.

“It would be a waste of time to get the debt restructuring without creating the necessary production capacity in the country to repay the debts when the repayments are due!” – Nawakwi.
When leaders face no consequences for dishonesty, their falsehoods tend to get even more sensational. What commitment to democracy, freedom, and his Christian faith would earn Hichilema an Honorary PhD?
In a world where vows are worthless, where making a pledge means nothing, where promises are made to be broken, it would be nice to see words of a statesman come back into State House.
