Kalala refuses to be part of Kasanda's incompetence, resigns!

Kasanda told Kalala that the instructions to create a position for a cadre came directly from Hichilema but she refused to put her instructions in writing.

Lusaka, Aug. 3 – Mr. Jack Kalala has resigned as Board Chairperson of the state broadcaster, Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation ( ZNBC), after resisting pressure from Information and Media Minister Chushi Kasanda to employ a UPND cadre Mr. Nalumino Nalumino.

Before the recruitment of Mr. Berry Lwando as ZNBC Director General, State House had proposed Mr. Nalumino Nalumino who was in the media campaign committee of the UPND prior to the August 2021 elections to be appointed ZNBC Director General because of the role he played as Coordinator of the media committee of the Seventh Day Advertist (SDA) Church.

Mr. Kalala and his board members looked at Mr. Nalumino’s credentials and told State House that he did not possess the necessary requisites to be at the helm of ZNBC.

Mr. Kalani Muchima’s name also popped up but the board still resisted but a position was created for Mr. Muchima at Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) going with a title of Director Presidential Assignments.

Mr. Nalumino Nalumino was not in panic mode and continued operating as Station Manager at the SDA owned Radio Maranatha in Kabwe.

Recently, the issue of Mr. Nalumino Nalumino resurfaced and Information Minister Chushi Kasanda after returning from her sick leave approached Mr. Kalala with the view of instructing him to create a position of Director Operations at ZNBC exclusively reserved for Mr. Nalumino like Mr. Kalan Muchima at ZANIS.

Mr. Kalala told the Minister that it was a mission impossible because the ZNBC establishment had no such structure because that is the role for Director of Programmes.

When Ms.Chushi Kasanda later told Mr. Kalala that the instructions to create a position for Mr. Nalumino came directly from the President of the Republic of Zambia Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, Mr. Kalala demanded that the Minister puts her instructions in writing citing the example of Mr. Lemmy Kajoba who lost his job over fake verbal instructions.

The former IG suspended criminal investigations involving embezzlement of funds after being told to stop and wait for instructions from President Hichilema through his legal advisor, Christopher Mundia.

The Information Minister retreated and started drafting a dismissal letter for Mr. Kalala. Mr. Kalala got wind of the development and before it was effected, he resigned. That is how Mr.Jack Kalala has left ZNBC.
