With the current leadership vacuum, the sausagegate scandal is just one of the several examples of scandals that unfortunately have slipped through unnoticed.
Lusaka, Aug. 21 – Like Donkey in the DreamWorks animation for the Shrek franchise, President Hakainde Hichilema is not short of words during his lectures mistakenly referred to as press briefings which, more often than not, lack substance.
At the centre of it all, is the fact that many have come to accept; Mr. Hichilema is just a puppet of the West who lacks political leadership to manage a complex yet instrumental country like Zambia! Maybe, he should have been Southern Province Minister as his primary political focus appears to be a tribal agenda.
Political leadership, on the other hand, is the ability to identify and put those with the technical know-how and ability in key positions needing such expertise. So the buck stops with him with all the mediocrity we can see from a politically inclined Inspector General of Police to running Koswe media house at State House.

When it comes to political leadership, he has lamentably failed. For instance, how does he appoint a cadre to head the Ministry of Health? Sylvia Masebo messed up the Ministry in less than a year, undoing the 10 year unprecedented investment by the previous regime that saw Zambia make huge headways in tackling Malaria, Cholera, TB and HIV/AIDS, among several milestones in the health sector. Despite several incredible corruption scandals, she remains the Minister of Health, a true reflection of a failed political leadership of Mr. Hichilema.
The politics of acrimony that Mr. Hichilema believes in, can’t develop Zambia. If anything, he is the best example of how plural politics in Africa was not introduced to promote development and good governance but a tool by our former colonial masters to put Africa in check. It remains a puzzle in the SADC region how Zambians could vote for a puppet leader after being led by Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, the true legend of Pan-African philosophy?
For over two years now, the nation has been yearning for the new dawn administration’s policy direction on many issues of national importance to give hope that despite the current social economic development challenges, the future is bright, such as a proper direction on the current developments in the mining sector.
But instead, his administration’s primary role has been reduced to discussing the perceived Patriotic Front failures. Did people vote for a lecturer on the purported Patriotic Front failed leadership? The sausagegate scandal is just a tip of the iceberg! But as the case was in the calendargate scandal, the culprits will escape unpunished.
If his acceptance of Mary Chirwa’s nudes should be the barometer of his political leadership, then we can rest assured that nothing good is coming out of this new dawn government. The earlier Zambians accept this, otherwise, unbearable fact, the easier it will be to stomach the pain of voting for a puppet government. A group of hyenas cannot manage the pride land but reduce it to ashes as was evidenced in the Lion King cartoon epic movie!
