Lusaka, Sept. 17 – In the heart of Lusaka, amidst the sweltering heat, the Patriotic Front Secretariat stood as a symbol of power and ambition. It was here that the tale of political drama and intrigue unfolded, captivating the attention of the nation.

“Man’s carnal mind will be quick to defend itself with legal spectacles, ignoring the spiritual ones which can tell when transitional leadership expires.” – Rev. Malombola.
The former Secretary General, Davies Mwila, prepared to pass on the torch to his successor, Raphael Nakachinda. However, murmurs of discontent echoed through the hallways, as party members questioned the validity of Nakachinda’s appointment. They hungered for a National Convention, a platform to debate and decide the party’s future, rather than these hastily-made appointments.
One man, in particular, was not afraid to voice his dissent. Miles Sampa, the boisterous Matero Member of Parliament and Presidential candidate, had rallied his loyal supporters, decked out in the party’s regalia. Like a choir of disgruntled voices, they were determined to challenge the status quo, to demand fairness and transparency.
As Nakachinda strode into the Secretariat, his binoculars dangled carelessly around his neck, his appointment already shrouded in controversy. Little did he know that danger lurked just outside those walls. Sampa’s spies had sent word, warning of an impending coup. Matero barrack, a force to be reckoned with, gathered strength and prepared to storm the Secretariat, to topple the newly appointed Secretary General.
The atmosphere crackled with tension as Sampa and his Matero Choir arrived, their resolve unwavering. Dressed in their PF regalia, they charged forward, determined to challenge what they saw as an illegitimate leadership.
The Secretariat became a battlefield, chaos and panic engulfing the once orderly halls. Nakachinda’s team, ill-prepared and caught off guard, scattered like frightened mice, their plans crumbling under the unexpected assault.
But Sampa, ever the showman, rose above the fray. He stood firm, bellowing at the top of his lungs, denouncing the appointments as illegal and demanding a proper convention. His words resonated with the disillusioned, his bravery inspiring those who had grown tired of backroom deals and power grabs.
As news of the coup circulated, the nation held its breath, torn between supporting Sampa’s audacity and condemning the chaos it had unleashed. Political analysts dissected the situation, debating the merits of an impromptu uprising versus the established processes of democracy.
In the end, the dust settled, and Sampa emerged as an unexpected hero or villain – depending on which side of the political spectrum one stood. No matter the opinion, his actions had pushed the party to confront its internal struggles, its flaws laid bare for all to see.

“Is it possible that we have allowed ourselves to rely too heavily on the popularity of President Lungu, rather than presenting a compelling vision for our party’s future?” – Dr. Mwelwa.
Months later, as the nation geared up for a much-anticipated National Convention, the echoes of that fateful day still reverberated. The political landscape had shifted, forever altered by the audacity of one man and the Matero Choir that dared to challenge the established norms.
And so, a satirical tale of power struggles, clandestine meetings, and spontaneous uprisings came to an end, leaving behind a nation forever changed – a nation that, for better or worse, had taken a step closer to defining its own destiny.
