I wouldn’t want to delve into matters which are under serious investigations. State House can be misunderstood.

Lusaka, Sept. 1 – State House Chief Communications Specialist, Clayson Hamasaka, also running Koswe, has failed to state whether or not espionage accused, Francis Mateyo, is his workmate.

Mateyo is charged alongside five other Zambians and five Egyptians for espionage in a matter which commenced after a foiled gold transaction at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.
According to the indictment before court, Mateyo’s profession is listed as “security officer”, but some government critics have been referring to him as a State House official.

Asked whether Mateyo indeed held any rank at State House in an interview, Hamasaka could neither say yes nor no. “I wouldn’t want to delve into matters which are under serious investigations. You know, sometimes at State House, we can be misunderstood…”
Indeed, Koswe can’t give a straightforward response as he would embarrass his boss who, when in opposition, said he would not work with cadres.
Dr. Fred M’membe, the Socialist Party leader, recently revealed that Mateyo is part of the UPND cadres who were encrypted into the State House security after Mr. Hakainde Hichilema took over office as Head of State.
He further revealed that Mateyo is believed to have been on a special assignment to collect the bags of dollars from KKIA for onward delivery. However, after picking up the money, he vanished with approximately US$5m and remained at large until the day of his arrest.
