“Lungu has not violated the provisions of the law which provides for the circumstances under which he can lose his benefits,” – Dr. Sishuwa Sishuwa.
Lusaka, Oct. 9 – Two Civil Rights Activists have sued the Attorney General demanding that the High Court makes a determination and declare that the resignation and retirement of Zambia’s sixth President, Mr. Edgar Lungu, from active politics on 26th August, 2021 has not legally taken effect.

In the court documents before the Lusaka High Court, Isaac Mwanza and Maurice Makalu, stated that they shall aver that Mr. Lungu remains in active politics and is not entitled to pension and other benefits which are usually payable to a former president.
The two activists claim that by virtue of fact that Mr. Lungu legally remains the Patriotic Front president until he hands over power to the next president, remains in active politics.
They have stated that they will demonstrate to the court that the former President had made appointments within his party as PF President even after he had submitted his resignation.
They said that Cabinet Office should have satisfied itself that the retirement from active politics by the former president had taken effect before commencing to pay his pension and other benefits.
