Lusaka, Oct. 31 – Ubuntu Institute – Zambia (UIZ) wishes to state that the return of former Republican President Edgar Chagwa Lungu to active politics has in earnest robbed Zambia of a Statesman and ideally a father of the nation figure who should have been providing guidance and counsel on national matters in addition to playing the role of unifying the nation.

Mr. Lungu is supposed to be a figure of honour and Statesmanship who should have kept away from active politics to play the role of giving guidance to the incumbent in the governance of the nation, as a fountain of wisdom.
It is truism that President Lungu worked and his works earned him respect with majority Zambians and therefore it is regrettable that the stance taken by Mr. Lungu will now expose him to political mudslinging and character assassination associated with politics, and strip him of the decorum that should go with the status of a former Republican President.
Our conviction is that Mr. Lungu, who worked hard for the development of the country, can still remain relevant in the governance of the nation by playing a different role as opposed to returning to active politics.

It is our prayer that the former Head of State can still use the position that he has taken to preserve the stature and image of a former Head of State and being a unifying factor in the nation.

Putting news into perspective
I think this is a UPND sponsored organisation. How do you blame a person who is trying to solve the situation? The correct headline should be “Hichilema has robbed the nation of a Statesman!” Is it normal that even the National Assembly has accepted Miles Sampa as PF President?
Thank you for your feedback. Have you also considered the fact that President Lungu had the opportunity to advise the Patriotic Front to hold the General Conference?
