This comes a day after the former President of Zambia announced his come back to active politics, aimed at saving democracy from total collapse in a country that has been known, until now, to be very democratic.
“It is not difficult for any well-meaning Zambian to notice that the recent events in our party have been instigated by those in government who appear determined to kill democracy in Zambia, for selfish political reasons,” Mr. Lungu said at a memorial of the late 5th President, Mr. Michael Sata.
“But let me put it on record that for as long as I live, I will not allow the Patriotic Front to die. President Michael Sata, in his death, left us a vibrant political organisation in power. I will not allow the mighty Patriotic Front to die just like I will not allow factions within the party. I will also not allow opportunistic individuals to destroy the party,” the former President continued.
Mr. Lungu then revealed that after a deep reflection and wide consultations, he had decided to come out of retirement to save the Patriotic Front.
“After a careful and deep reflection and wide consultations, following naked efforts by those in power to annihilate the biggest opposition party in Zambia today, the Patriotic Front, using their stooges and institutions of governance, I have decided to return to active politics to continue as President of the Party!” he emphasized.

President Hakainde Hichilema has disappointed many after promising progressive democratic reforms. Simon Wolfe, a London based international lawyer and founder of Marlow Strategy, in his article “Hichilema and the future of African leadership” told the world about Africa’s renaissance following President Hakainde Hichilema’s victory. President Hakainde Hichilema has, however, proven to be just another autocratic African leader who can’t compete at the level of ideas.
