Lusaka, April 27 – We were delighted and honoured to join Heads of State, global leaders and thousands of Tanzanian citizens in celebrating the 60th anniversary of the union of Zanzibar and Tanganyika with Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, yesterday, the 26th of April, 2024.

Unity Day marks the anniversary of the amalgamation of mainland Tanganyika and the Island of Zanzibar, to form the United Republic of Tanzania. Zambia and Tanzania have shared common values since our independence in 1964.
During the dark days of apartheid, the two nations formed a united front to lead the campaign against that oppressive system, while also supporting refugees who needed safety and security.
The legacy of Dr. Kenneth David Buchizya Kaunda and Dr. Julius Mwalimu Kambarage Nyerere, the founding fathers of our two great nations, further strengthens our enduring relationship, which is based on mutual respect and trust.
