They say foolishness is recognizing the truth, acknowledging it, yet still embracing falsehoods, while patriotism involves prioritizing the welfare of our country over that of any individual!
Lusaka, May 1 – What does the cost of K35 per litre of petrol signify in practical terms? It signifies more hardship for an average child in rural Zambia, while Zambia continues to lose out on around $12 billion annually from emerald sales to foreign entities.

President Hakainde Hichilema has regrettably fallen short. Even if he were to inaugurate more lavatories, it would be futile because how will people produce waste to use those facilities when they struggle to afford food?
It is said, “Foolishness is recognizing the truth, acknowledging the truth, yet still embracing falsehoods!” The reality is that the situation is far worse than what HH inherited! Let’s, for once, show our loyalty by prioritizing the needs of our country over those of President Hichilema.
It is the epitome of patriotism to back President Hakainde Hichilema as long as he effectively serves the nation, but given the current economic mismanagement, it is unpatriotic not to challenge him to the same extent that he has failed to uphold his commitment to prioritize the fundamental needs of this nation.
A question worth asking ourselves is why we should be praising President Hichilema for doing the opposite of what he promised to do. Would that not make us not only unpatriotic but also a special kind of intelligent people? Let’s say no to foolishness!
We all know that something is clearly wrong but it’s difficult to pinpoint the cause. With all the rich natural resources Zambia has, why is it that at 60 years old, we are still languishing in poverty? Could it be because of our political leadership’s failure to think on its own, having chosen to rely on external help to solve issues it can solve if independent thinking minds were at play?

Paul Kagame reckons, “In Africa, we have everything we need, in real terms. Whatever is lacking, we have the means to acquire. And yet we remain mentally married to the idea that nothing can get moving, without external finance. We are even begging for things we already have. That is absolutely a failure of mindset.”
