On July 24th, Mr. Muleya, the IBA Director General, was found dead in the Njolwe area, 25 kilometers from Crossroads Shopping Mall, following his abduction after leaving work on July 23rd, 2024.
Lusaka, July 27 – The Zambia Police Service has successfully detained four individuals suspected in the murder of Mr. Guntila Muleya, the Director General of the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA).

The suspects include two regular police officers, one reserve police officer, and one civilian. During the investigation, the official vehicle belonging to the deceased was recovered.
Moreover, the authorities have confiscated two additional vehicles, three firearms (two pistols and an AK-47 rifle), cash amounting to K129,300, assorted knives, and various electronic devices such as phones, hard drives, and flash disks from the suspects.
Mr. Rae Hamoonga, the Zambia Police Public Relations Officer, conveyed in a statement made available to Woodpecker’s Digest that the investigation is making significant progress.
He has assured the public that updates would be provided in due course but emphasized that premature disclosure could compromise the investigation. He has also expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation and support during this challenging investigation.
Mr. Hamoonga has extended the heartfelt condolences of the Zambia Police Service to the family of Mr. Guntila Muleya and the staff of the Independent Broadcasting Authority during this difficult time.
