As the nation approaches the next election, Zambians are faced with a crucial decision. Should they place their trust once again in a leader who has shown a willingness to compromise on key promises?
Lusaka, Aug. 28 – Harry Kalaba’s submission to a man, Edgar Lungu, who he openly despised, urges me to discuss a very critical issue that a patriotic mind must contemplate on.

Zambia stands at a crossroads, where the need for a true statesman has never been more urgent. The late President Levy Mwanawasa, a figure revered for his commitment to integrity and good governance, had strong words for Hakainde Hichilema.
“The problem Mr. Hichilema has is the fact that he wants to cheat, to mislead, to show that he is what he is not. His understanding of politics is that it doesn’t matter; you can cheat, provided you get your goals!”
This criticism cuts to the heart of what Zambia needs now, a leader who is not just a politician but a statesman, someone who puts the nation’s interests above personal ambition and political gain.
President Hichilema’s tenure has been marked by a series of backtracks on key campaign promises, raising serious doubts about his commitment to the principles he once championed.
His pledge to enforce zero tolerance for corruption was a cornerstone of his campaign, giving hope to millions of Zambians tired of endemic graft. However, the reality has been far from the promise. Instances of corruption continue to surface, and the much-vaunted fight against it appears selective at best.
Moreover, his commitment to upholding the rule of law has faltered, with the legal system increasingly perceived as being manipulated for political ends. This erosion of trust and integrity has left many wondering whether Hichilema is the leader Zambia needs at this critical time.
As the nation approaches the next election, Zambians are faced with a crucial decision. Should they place their trust once again in a leader who has shown a willingness to compromise on key promises? Or should they demand a higher standard of leadership – one that embodies the qualities of a true statesman?
The stakes are high. A politician may be content with winning votes and securing power, but a statesman understands that leadership is about more than just achieving personal or political goals. It is about guiding a nation toward a better future with honesty, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the public good. Zambia deserves nothing less.
