Lusaka, Aug 18 – It has come to our attention that an audio recording containing private and sensitive discussions has been leaked to the public. I am deeply concerned about this breach of confidentiality and the distress it has caused.

This audio was sent to my then Vice President a few days before JJ was abducted. We had been experiencing disciplinary issues within the New Era Democratic (NED) party, and on July 4th, I made the difficult decision to dismiss my Vice President after she leaked the audio. This gross breach of confidentiality cannot be tolerated. Unfortunately, this conversation was released with the intent to damage my reputation.
First and foremost, I want to extend my sincere apologies to former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu. The contents of the leaked audio in no way reflect the respect and admiration we hold for his service to our nation. Any comments that may have been perceived as disrespectful or inappropriate are deeply regretted and do not represent the values or beliefs of our organization.
Additionally, I want to apologize to the UKA community, who may have also been impacted by this incident. We understand that this situation has caused undue concern and speculation, and for that, we are truly sorry.
The NED party and I remain steadfast in our commitment to a united Zambia and the UKA community. We are dedicated to upholding the highest standards of confidentiality, respect, and integrity in all our communications.
We deeply regret any harm or discomfort this situation has caused and appreciate the understanding and support of everyone involved as we work to address this matter.
