Zambia’s shift from its non-aligned peace tradition to supporting global conflicts calls for immediate political change to restore its integrity and protect the future of vulnerable children.
Lusaka, Oct. 6 – For the first time in Zambia’s storied history, our nation has aligned itself with the axis of war, lending its support to conflicts raging in both the Middle East and Ukraine. Zambia, once a proud non-aligned Pan-African state, is now seen taking sides with Israel and the United States, two actors deeply embroiled in these confrontations.

This is a dangerous shift from our traditional stance of neutrality, a departure from a legacy built on peace and the preservation of human life. Zambia must urgently recalibrate its foreign policy, reaffirming our commitment to the sanctity of life, whether it be here at home or in far-flung regions.
The ongoing escalation in Lebanon is a harrowing example of the destructive nature of such conflicts. Thousands have been killed and injured, and a paralyzing fear has gripped the population. According to UNICEF reports, at least 100 children have lost their lives in Lebanon over the span of just 11 days, with over 690 others injured in the past six weeks.
These statistics are more than just numbers – they represent the extinguished futures and shattered hopes of innocent children. The suffering of these young souls must end, and it can only be achieved through immediate and decisive de-escalation. No war justifies the slaughter of the innocent.
As Zambians, we must recognize that the current administration has strayed far from the principles of sovereignty and independence, becoming little more than a puppet of Western powers. Our nation has always stood tall on the global stage, advocating for peace and diplomacy.
However, under this regime, we are veering toward complicity in conflicts that do not serve the interests of our people or the global community. It is time we reclaim our rightful position as a voice of reason and neutrality in international affairs.
The road to a better future begins with protecting the most vulnerable among us: children. To achieve the Global Goals, it is imperative that we stand up for children’s rights and secure their futures.

We, as patriotic Zambians, hold the power to reshape the course of our nation. By voting out the current regime, we can restore Zambia’s integrity on the world stage and work toward a future where every child, regardless of where they are born, has the chance to live in peace. The responsibility is ours, and the time for action is now.
