The substantive position of the Patriotic Front is that President Lungu remains the party president. Any issues will be settled either internally or through the courts!

Lusaka, Nov. 13 – During an interview on 5FM Radio, Hon. Dr. Chitalu Chilufya, Member of Parliament for Mansa Central, clarified his stance on the ongoing debate surrounding the Patriotic Front (PF) leadership. Dr. Chilufya affirmed that the official position of the PF is that former President Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, having returned from retirement, remains the President of the party.

Dr. Chilufya’s call to reset our politics and recalibrate the national agenda toward service delivery and poverty eradication through dialogue and unity deserves full support to foster national development.
However, given that certain matters related to the leadership dispute are currently before the courts, Dr. Chilufya chose not to elaborate further, expressing a desire to avoid any potential misunderstanding or risk of contempt.
“There have been internal disagreements and efforts to organize conventions,” Dr. Chilufya remarked. “But the formal and substantive position of the Patriotic Front party is that President Edgar Chagwa Lungu remains the PF President. The remaining issues will be settled either internally or through the courts, and I’ll leave it at that,” he reiterated.
Certain factions within the PF have expressed doubts about Dr. Chitalu Chilufya’s loyalty to the party’s leadership. This unease follows his assertion on ZNBC’s Sunday Interview that the PF could not effectively uphold its role as an objective opposition force if it remained fragmented and disorganized.
“The main opposition party with 59 seats in Parliament has leadership wrangles. Therefore, as we speak of other parties, we can’t ignore the major opposition party. The state of turmoil must be addressed as an emergency. Our official stance remains unwavering – our president is Edgar Chagwa Lungu!” Dr. Chilufya affirmed, reiterating the position he initially voiced on 5FM Radio.
