The Hichilema administration’s selective justice exposes its hypocrisy, targeting Why Me while shielding worse offenses against Lungu, proving its real goal is narrative control, not justice.
Lusaka, Mar. 12 – The rule of law demands consistency, yet under the Hichilema administration, its application appears to be guided more by political expediency than by principles of fairness. The recent uproar over social media personality Why Me is a case in point. While his crude language is certainly condemnable, the swiftness and intensity of the government’s response raise serious concerns about selective justice.

Hon. Elvis Nkandu’s condemnation of Why Me would carry more weight if his own record were not riddled with contradictions. How does one criticize a foul-mouthed youth while simultaneously celebrating others who spew equally offensive rhetoric – provided, of course, they target the right opponents? This inconsistency erodes public trust in the government’s commitment to impartial justice.
The real issue here is not Why Me’s choice of words, but rather the challenge he poses to the ruling party’s tightly controlled narrative. The government’s willingness to act decisively against him, while tolerating – or even encouraging – harsher attacks against former President Edgar Lungu and his allies, suggests that the primary goal is not justice, but suppression of dissent.
