When the President calls for a press briefing to suppress the human rights of individuals they are supposed to protect, it raises questions about the values and principles they are upholding.
Lusaka, June 11 – The increasing advocacy for LGBTQ rights in Zambia, while viewed positively in Western contexts, reflects a shift away from traditional Zambian values. However, this cultural evolution has also impacted the sanctity of family values, with reports of marital infidelity becoming more common, including couples engaging in adulterous encounters at lodges.

The solution to the poverty in Africa will require a comprehensive and collaborative approach that should take into account the unique circumstances and needs of the African continent.
Despite President Hakainde Hichilema’s approach of assigning the task of addressing the decline in values and principles to the legislative branch, advocating for stricter laws, the ultimate responsibility lies with him. His primary focus should be on fulfilling his constitutional obligation to promote values and principles by upholding Zambia’s constitution.
As per Article 9 (2) of the Constitution, the President is required to communicate with the nation, through Parliament, about the progress made by their Government in promoting and upholding national values and principles. However, when the President calls for a press briefing to suppress the human rights of individuals they are supposed to protect, it raises questions about the values and principles they are upholding.
It’s clear that there’s a regression in this aspect, yet the Head of State appears indifferent to promptly addressing this issue, much like numerous other socio-economic development challenges. Consequently, it’s now up to us to step up and fill the leadership void left by the Head of State.
Isn’t it apparent that Zambia now prioritizes conformity and obedience? Those who dare to express independent thoughts face ostracism and ridicule. This mindset has even led to the notion that achieving wealth is somehow wrong. However, these nonconformists, considered outcasts, are the real trailblazers of the nation. They challenge our politically biased assumptions and encourage us to broaden our perspectives.
So, let’s honour individuals such as Activist Brebnar Changala, who boldly embrace their uniqueness, despite the significant sacrifices it entails in a Zambia where conformity is prized. If you find yourself feeling like an outsider today, like you don’t quite belong in this emerging Zambia, consider it a positive sign.
This indicates your capacity to truly impact this esteemed nation, which has historically influenced the course of Southern Africa. It’s imperative that we avoid allowing Zambia to become a mere pawn of the West, susceptible to proxy conflicts like Ukraine. Hence, embrace your individuality, chart your own course without hesitation. Zambia thrives on your distinctive viewpoint.

Patriotism doesn’t entail blind support for the President but rather endorsing him only as long as he effectively serves the nation.
◾Conclusion: The increasing advocacy for LGBTQ rights in Zambia, while applauded by Western standards, should be seen as a departure from traditional Zambian values, impacting even family dynamics with several reports of marital infidelity.
President Hakainde Hichilema, instead of solely urging legislative action, must also fulfill his constitutional duty to uphold national values. Despite constitutional mandates, his actions, like suppressing human rights, seem contradictory.
This regression necessitates citizens to address the leadership vacuum. Dissenters are marginalized in a society valuing conformity, yet they are crucial for challenging assumptions.
Figures like Activist Brebnar Changala, embracing individuality despite societal pressures, embody the potential for positive change. Embracing diversity and independent thinking is vital to safeguard Zambia’s autonomy and prevent external influence.
