Lusaka, June 18 – Following an audacious and sweeping campaign spanning Turkiye, Egypt, Nigeria, and Namibia, Deputy Commissioner Nawa’s campaign team, spearheaded by the illustrious diplomat and Special Envoy for the President of the Republic of Zambia, Ambassador Lazarous Kapambwe, has triumphantly concluded its mission, securing a resolute assurance from neighbouring Namibia.

While in Namibia, the team engaged in highly productive meetings with Mr. AvShalom Nghifitikeko, the esteemed Director of International and Regional Coordination at the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation.
Later in the afternoon, the team met Honourable Albert Kawana, Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, flanked by the INTERPOL Executive Committee Member – Delegate for Africa, Major General Anna-Marie Nainda who is also the Deputy Inspector General together with senior officials from the Namibian Police Force.
Mr. Nghifitikeko emphatically declared that, akin to the Sustainable Development Goals, the implementation strategy of leaving no one behind must be rigorously applied within INTERPOL. He highlighted the glaring inequality of Africa and other regions’ non-participation at a strategic level, a disparity that urgently demands rectification for the organization to truly harness the rich diversity of its Member States.
Meanwhile, Minister Kawana unequivocally reaffirmed Namibia’s unwavering commitment to championing Zambia’s candidature, aligning with the robust endorsements already secured from both the SADC and the AU.
Mr. Nawa’s candidacy presents a pivotal opportunity for INTERPOL to enact profound structural reforms, empowering the organization to fully integrate its underrepresented regions. This will enhance strategic participation and optimize the utilization of its extensive array of policing capabilities.
