Lusaka, July 21 – Russia will investigate how Zambia, Malawi and Mauritius joined the final communiquĂ© of the BĂŒrgenstock conference on Ukraine without participating in the event itself. This was stated by Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador at Large Oleg Ozerov at a session of the Valdai Club. His words are quoted by TASS.

On 15 and 16 June 2024, Switzerland organised a Summit on Peace in Ukraine at the BĂŒrgenstock (Canton of Nidwalden). The aim of that heads of state and government meeting, was to develop a common understanding of a path towards a just and lasting peace in Ukraine but Russia was not invited to it.
According to Ozerov, only 14 out of 54 African countries took part in the Swiss conference, and only 10 of them signed the communiqué. South Africa, Libya and Mauritania refused to support the document, while Rwanda withdrew its signature.
âThen, however, a strange thing happened: three African countries – Zambia, Malawi and Mauritius – joined the document in some unknown way, without taking part in the conference. We expect, of course, to ask how it is possible to join a very dubious document without participating in anything,â the ambassador said.
Delegations of most UN member states were absent. Among the African states that supported the communiquĂ© were Benin, Ghana, Kenya, Cote dâIvoire, Somalia, Liberia, Comoros, Gambia, Sao Tome and Principe.
