Institutions of governance have been turned into Hichilema’s instruments of political power consolidation rather than pillars of democratic accountability.

Addressing Journalists at Twin Palm Police Station this morning, Dr. M`membe`s Lawyer Simon Mwila said his client had been arrested following an article posted on his Facebook page on 16th July 2024, alleging corruption and other abuses involving Zambian authorities and Democratic Republic of Congo-DRC President Felix Tshisekedi.
Mr. Mwila said Dr. M`membe is currently in police custody and efforts to secure a police bond for him were underway.
Meanwhile, Party Vice President Cosmas Musumali has alleged that the continued arrests of opposition political leaders under the current regime are meant to intimidate and silence them.
President Hichilema is strategically manipulating institutions of governance, turning them into instruments of personal power consolidation rather than pillars of democratic accountability.
This calculated abuse of authority seeks to extend his autocratic tendencies from the confines of his party to the broader national landscape, threatening the very foundations of Zambia’s democracy.
In light of this unprecedented assault on democracy, true patriotism demands more than passive allegiance to President Hichilema, it requires active resistance against any form of governance that strays from serving the people’s best interests.
