Following Dr. Chilufya’s statement, Hon. Mecha paints a vision of a Zambia where leaders unite, ideas are shared, and every corner of the country benefits from these alliances.
Lusaka, Oct. 25 – In a climate where politics often overshadows progress, Hon. Ponde C. Mecha, the former Member of Parliament for Chifunabuli Constituency, has stood tall to address a recent wave of speculation around Hon. Dr. Chitalu Chilufya’s collaboration with President Hakainde Hichilema. This engagement, Hon. Mecha insists, is a golden opportunity to uplift Mansa Central and not a page out of a political drama script.

As Dr. Chilufya joined President Hichilema on an October 22nd visit to Mazabuka’s Zambia Sugar Company, the moment was ripe with potential to inspire fresh ideas for Mansa’s economic growth. “This was a moment to seize insight, not to stoke suspicion,” declared Hon. Mecha, underlining that Zambia Sugar, as a thriving parastatal, exemplifies success in the country’s economy.
Dr. Chilufya, in his capacity as Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Parastatal Bodies, was there not as a defector but as a student of progress. “Let us not throw away this chance for development by clouding it with rumours and political suspicion,” Hon. Mecha advised, encouraging Zambians to look beyond party lines and see the value this visit could bring to Mansa’s own Mansa Sugar Company.
To drive home his point, Hon. Mecha drew a comparison to Hon. Gary Nkombo, MP for Mazabuka Central and now Minister of Local Government and Rural Development.
“You may remember how Nkombo, while in opposition, worked hand-in-hand with then Minister of Health, Dr. Chilufya, under the PF government?” Hon. Mecha recollected, reminding the author that their collaboration led to substantial improvements in Mazabuka’s health facilities, blessed by then-President Edgar Lungu, which clearly shows that development can break through the thickest political walls when leaders put their constituencies first. This historical example, he emphasized, is proof that crossing party lines can yield results when the people’s welfare is the priority.
With this in mind, Hon. Mecha called on Dr. Chilufya to return to Mansa Central with a new resolve. “Now, more than ever, is the time to leverage this opportunity,” he urged. Equipped with insights from Mazabuka, Dr. Chilufya is positioned to make a real impact in Mansa, especially in strengthening Mansa Sugar Company. With knowledge gained, he can lobby for the necessary investments to grow his constituency’s economic landscape. “This isn’t about politics,” Hon. Mecha stated emphatically, “it’s about doing right by the people who trusted him to lead.”

Dr. Chilufya’s call to reset our politics and recalibrate the national agenda toward service delivery and poverty eradication through dialogue and unity deserves full support to foster national development.
Hon. Mecha has since urged Zambians to support interactions between opposition MPs and the Head of State as a means to forge unity and national progress. “We cannot afford to let division keep us from advancing,” he said with conviction. “When our leaders engage meaningfully across party lines, it’s a win for Zambia. Let’s recognize that collaboration, not isolation, will pave the way to our nation’s prosperity.”
Through his words, Hon. Mecha painted a vision of a Zambia where leaders unite, ideas are shared, and every corner of the country benefits from these alliances. The message is clear: it’s time to turn political boundaries into bridges for Zambia’s future.
