Lusaka, June 30 – Oh, thrilled readers, I have an entertaining piece of news for you! Our dear friend, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, seems to be in quite the tizzy over the United States’ assessment of human rights in Zambia. Can you believe it?
Apparently, the US State Department had the audacity to release a report pointing out some alleged human rights violations under Hichilema’s leadership. But oh, our dear holy Hichilema won’t accept it, will he?
No, no, he and his buddies are engaged in a frenzied dance of denial, desperately trying to defend themselves against these “outrageous” claims. Bless their hearts, but it seems the report must have hit a little too close to home.

According to the report, there are allegations of unlawful killings, torture, restrictions on freedom of expression, corruption, and even the suppression of free speech through some newfangled Cyber Security and Crimes Act. My, my, isn’t that just shocking?
But you see, dear readers, this report merely reflects the “oh-so-real” reality of Hichilema’s governance, no matter how much he denies it. It seems that under his rule, the concept of the rule of law is as mythical as a unicorn. Detaining suspects without charge? Abducting and assaulting critical voices? Oh, how positively charming!

And let’s not forget about their creative methods of suppressing free speech and manipulating the Electoral Commission during those pesky by-elections. I must say, their imaginative use of the criminal justice system for political purposes is simply mind-boggling. One can’t help but be moved by their immense hypocrisy and double standards.
It seems that dear Hichilema and his cronies want to have their cake and eat it too. They want to do as they please while expecting everyone else to fall in line. But alas, dear Zambians, brace yourselves, for this regime is determined to repress you like never before. The gall!
But fear not, my witty readers, for there is a glimmer of hope. The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) has had the audacity to condemn acts of police brutality and torture against its own citizens. Can you even believe it? How dare they question the actions of our oh-so-fearless police officers, who are simply doing their job of inflicting pain and suffering on innocent individuals? The nerve!
Yes, LAZ has gone as far as to highlight specific cases of abuse and criticize the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Musamba, for asking the Opposition to cooperate with the police or face the use of “minimum force.” How dare he ask for cooperation and respect for the law?

It seems that LAZ has gotten a little too big for its britches. Who do they think they are, advocating for human rights and calling for the prevention of torture and degrading treatment? Don’t they know that blind obedience is the name of the game?
But, my astute readers, let’s give credit where credit is due. LAZ should be commended for their courage in standing up against police brutality and advocating for the rights of citizens. It takes real guts to challenge those in power, especially when it’s an institution like the police. Bravo, LAZ, bravo!
So, dear readers, let’s hope that LAZ’s condemnation will lead to positive change and justice for those who have suffered. It’s about time someone put these supposed human rights violations under the microscope. After all, who needs human rights when we can have a good old-fashioned repressive regime? Cheers to that!
